Hi, I'm Penny.

I do the sums so you don't get a nasty surprise.

Dogs are the best. They are also, quietly, one of the bigger money decisions a person makes — and most people only find that out a year or two in, the hard way. Paw & Pocket exists to flip that around: see the real, full cost before you bring a dog home, not after.

That's my whole job. You tell me a few things — size, food, grooming, whether you want insurance — and I tally what a dog actually costs across its life: the first-year setup, the steady monthly drip, the big lifetime number nobody warns you about. No sign-up, no catch, no spreadsheet.

How we keep the lights on

Paw & Pocket is free, and it stays free because it's reader-supported. When the calculator points you toward something genuinely useful — a pet insurer worth comparing, a food brand, a bit of kit — some of those links earn us a small commission if you click through. It costs you nothing extra, and it never changes the numbers I show you or which options you see. The honest version, in full, lives on our affiliate disclosure page.

Who's behind it

Paw & Pocket is a project of The Periwinkle Network. We build small, useful, lovable things for the web — this is one of them.

A note from the humans: our numbers are well-researched estimates, not quotes, and they're no substitute for your vet. Always check with a professional for anything medical.
